Many slump as fire guts popular Lagos plank market

About 15 shop owners were said to have slumped due to the wildfire that razed Amu Timber, a Lagos popular plank market on Saturday morning. Residents were divided over when the fire started. Some said the fire started around 11pm while others said it was around 12am. The Nation Correspondent counted more than seven burnt houses. Goods worth hundreds of billions were lost to the inferno. The shop owners, some of who live in far places, could not savage any of their goods. No confirmed case of Lassa Fever in Ogun – Commissioner

Ogun State government on Wednesday said that there is no confirmed case of Lassa Fever in the State. The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) erroneously listed Ogun as one of the affected states. But reacting, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, in a release, said there is no case of confirmed Lassa Fever in Ogun, adding that government had however put its health officials on red alert in the event of a suspected case. Coker therefore allays the fear of residents of the State, advising them to avoid contact with rodents and ensure personal as well as environmental hygiene. Describing Lassa Fever as an endemic acute viral hemorrhage illness that is transmitted from rodents to human, and human to human, the Commissioner advised health workers across the state to maintain a high index of suspicions for Lassa and treat all cases of fever symptoms with caution. She added that all suspected cases of Lassa Fever should be reported to the Local Government Area

The billionaire will take office space in New York to help diversify his investments and avoid the risk of naira fluctuations. The naira has in recent years, come under pressure against the dollar as crude oil prices dip leading to fall in Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings. Man remanded for defiling seven-year-old girl

  A Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered that a 24-year-old man, Ahmad Suleiman, be remanded at the Kano Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl. Suleiman, an unemployed, who lives at Kachako village in Takai Local Government is being tried on a one count charge of rape. Chief Magistrate Mr. Muhammad Jibril ordered that the defendant be kept at the correctional centre. He adjourned the matter till January 6. Prosecuting Inspector Pogu Lale had told the court that Abubakar Usman of the same village reported the matter at Kachako Police Station on November 21, 2019. He alleged that on November 20, at about 10:30 am, the defendant deceived and lured the complainant, a seven-year-old girl, into an uncompleted building situated at Kachako village and had unlawful sexual intercourse with her, which caused her harm.
