Man remanded for defiling seven-year-old girl

 

A Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered that a 24-year-old man, Ahmad Suleiman, be remanded at the Kano Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl.
Suleiman, an unemployed, who lives at Kachako village in Takai Local Government is being tried on a one count charge of rape.
Chief Magistrate Mr. Muhammad Jibril ordered that the defendant be kept at the correctional centre.
He adjourned the matter till January 6.
Prosecuting Inspector Pogu Lale had told the court that Abubakar Usman of the same village reported the matter at Kachako Police Station on November 21, 2019.
He alleged that on November 20, at about 10:30 am, the defendant deceived and lured the complainant, a seven-year-old girl, into an uncompleted building situated at Kachako village and had unlawful sexual intercourse with her, which caused her harm.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the one count charge.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 283 of the Penal Code.

Court orders ASUU to call off strike

  The Academic Staff Union of Universities was told to end its ongoing strike by the Nigerian National Industrial Court on Wednesday. According to The PUNCH, ASUU has been on strike since February 14 to emphasize its demands for increased financing for institutions and a review of professors' pay, among other things.
